GenAI Literacy Open Educational Resources

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new set of open educational resources designed to help University of Toronto instructors integrate Generative AI (GenAI) literacy into their courses. Developed through the GenAI Literacy Course Modules initiative and funded by the Vice-Provost, Innovations in Undergraduate Education (VPIUE), these modules are now available for use to all faculty and staff.

About the Modules

The GenAI literacy modules are designed to be adaptable, and instructors can use the modules as-is or tailor them to fit a range of course requirements and learning outcomes. The resources are aligned with institutional guidance from the University of Toronto AI Task Force, and have been developed in consultation with Faculty, Student Life, the Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (CTSI), and the University of Toronto Library.

What’s Included

These customizable modules are available in multiple formats for instructors to use, including:

  • Standalone: A standalone website in an open Quercus shell, available to any instructor or student.
  • Quercus modules: Material designed for import into any course shell in the Quercus (Canvas) learning management system.
  • Other file formats: Content provided for download in Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word and PDF formats to provide other options for instructors.
  • Instructor guide: Suggestions for integration, how-tos, reference links.

Whether you’re looking to build basic GenAI awareness, help students navigate AI critically and ethically, or prompt discussion and reflection, these modules offer a flexible starting point to engage students on the use of AI in teaching and learning.
